Matthew Gaudreau’s wife is keeping his memory alive.
Madeline Gaudreau, who is currently expecting her first child with the late minor league hockey player, recently celebrated her baby shower filled with nods to Matthew and his brother Johnny Gaudreau.
“Baby shower of my dreams,” Madeline, who revealed she is expecting a son, Tripp, wrote in an Oct. 13 Instagram post. “My husband would have loved all the balloons. The way you were able to tie in my husband brought instant tears when I walked in.”
The couple had announced they were expecting their first child on social media in June. Two months later, Matthew, 29, and his 31-year-old brother Johnny—who shared kids Noa, 2, Johnny Edward, 8 months and another baby on the way with wife Meredith Gaudreau—were killed in a biking crash in New Jersey Aug. 29.
“All my friends and family, nothing will bring his dad back or Uncle John,” Madeline continued in her post. “But I am glad he has so many amazing people around him to remind him how amazing they were.”
The 30-year-old also shared another post that showed off all the decorations from her elaborate party—including cookies, balloons and the theme, “A little piece of heaven,” a nod to the late Gaudreau brothers.
And while the baby shower was a loving tribute to her late husband, it is not the first time Madeline has opened up about the loss of her husband—with whom she tied the knot in 2021.
“I have no words,” Madeline wrote in a Aug. 31 Instagram post. “I just miss you. I don’t know my life without you. I have never experienced a pain like this. I am so blessed you choose me to be your wife—to love me. You are the best thing about me. I know you are watching down in just as much pain as I am looking up. I will keep going for you and our son. I love you so much Matthew.”
Meanwhile, Meredith, 31, has also grieved her own husband, a former Columbus Blue Jackets player—and expressed gratitude for her pregnancy, which she announced last month.
“In less than three years of marriage, we've created a family of five," Meredith—who married Johnny in 2021—said. “It doesn't even sound possible, but I look at it as the ultimate blessing. How lucky am I to be the mother of John's three babies? Our last one being a blessing and so special despite these difficult circumstances.”
